Walgreens reimburses workers for abortion travel
Walgreens announced it would reimburse employees for travel expenses if they travel more than 50 miles for an abortion.
Following the Supreme Court's decision overturning the constitutional right to an abortion in Dobbs, Walgreens announced it would reimburse "its workers for travel expenses if they have to venture more than 50 miles for an abortion."
Walgreens will reimburse many of its workers for travel expenses if they have to venture more than 50 miles for an abortion, the company said Wednesday — a move that follows a U.S. Supreme Court decision last week ending federal protection for abortion.
Deerfield-based Walgreens is “broadening our existing travel reimbursement benefits” for any employee who is covered by the company’s self-funded health insurance to allow travel reimbursement for covered medical, surgical, mental or substance abuse services not available within 50 miles of the worker’s home, spokesman Jim Cohn said in a statement.
Walgreens received perfect scores on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2016 Corporate Equality Index, which measures LGBTQ-inclusive workplace policies and practices.
